Finding the necessary balance between pain control, proper dosing, side effect management, and the risk of dependence or abuse brings its challenges and controversies. Attend this conference focusing on clinical considerations when prescribing opioids and other pain medications in the "real world," including patient selection, pain assessment, drug choices, therapeutic monitoring, side effect management and concerns with use in special populations. Alan P. Agins, PhD, a nationally known expert on pharmacology, and Jody F. Agins, MSN, RNP, FNP/GNP-BC, WCC, an experienced clinician providing pain management ?in the trenches,? will provide a review of the pathophysiology of pain as well as the pharmacology of opioids and other pain medications, in addition to examining options to minimize or prevent misuse and abuse of prescription opioids.
