Need Some Inspiration? Watch Charity Film Awards Finalist ‘Events for Namuwongo’

April 24, 2019

For the past few weeks, Events for Namuwongo sought industry support to help its short film “Events for Namuwongo – The Work” win the People’s Choice, Charity Film of the year at the Charity Film Awards, which was held April 26 at the new etc.venues in London.

While it didn’t win the title, there are still many reasons to watch the film, which covers EFN’s life-changing work to improve the living conditions and youth educational opportunities in the underprivileged community of Namuwongo in Uganda.

After 60,000 public votes were cast across 400 different charities, a team of expert judges reviewed the shortlist and named “Events for Namuwongo – The Work” as a finalist.

“Engaging with the awards gives us an opportunity to share the story of Namuwongo and to show the life-changing work that the funds raised have made possible,” explained Keri Duffy, marketing manager for tfconnect.

CSR

Spearheaded by London-based Chris Hughes of Brand Events and Trevor Foley of tfconnect Global Recruitment, EFN launched at the 2011 Global Event Summit. It has since resulted in a growing philanthropic network of event companies driven to change the lives of the estimated 30,000 underprivileged citizens living in the adopted village community.

“The response from our industry was immediate and positive,” Foley said. We play soccer [with the residents of Namuwongo]; we dance with them; they love us, and we love them. It’s no more complicated than that. Everybody in the world deserves help if they need it.”

Since its founding, EFN has raised more than £900,000 (approximately $1.2 million) in donations that have resulted in major improvements in the basic living conditions in Namuwongo. Hundreds of children have been able to go to school; parents have achieved sustainable livelihoods, and the community now has improved access to healthcare and sanitation, including three EFN-funded toilets.
