LoveGreen Meeting Package launched at the HKCEC

August 23, 2016

Committing to venue and event sustainability, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre is the first organization in Hong Kong to attain the ISO 20121 Event Sustainability Management System certification.

Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Limited (“HML”) took a further step to launch the LoveGreen Meeting Package, which can help event organizers to meet their corporate responsibility goals.

In the package, HML aims to offer green meeting experiences to event organizers and delegates from event setting, menu options to after event services.  Environmentally conscious organizers will be provided with eco-friendly lunch or coffee break menus incorporating sustainable, hydroponic ingredients, and low-carbon options.

Notepads and stationery will be provided on need basis and use of whiteboards instead of paper flipcharts is encouraged.  Recycle bins will be placed outside meeting rooms to promote recycling.

HML encourages organizers to join hands and donate unconsumed food from lunch, dinner, cocktail reception and coffee break to selected NGOs in Hong Kong, such as Food Angel.

From energy-saving prospective, HML strongly encourages organizers to set the room temperature at 25°C and make use of natural sunlight, as most of the HKCEC’s meeting rooms are equipped with full-height glass panels.

Monica Lee-Müller, managing director of HML, said, “The launch of LoveGreen Meeting Package further demonstrates our commitment to promote a sustainable event industry.  We hope to motivate and partner with our event organisers and business associates to take part in our green initiatives.”

HML incorporates sustainability in every level of its business operation. In the fiscal year ending June 2016, more than 420,000kg of food and other waste materials were collected for recycling.  1,300 pieces of light tubes at the back of house areas have been replaced with motion sensing dimmable LED lighting. Almost 1,900kg of unconsumed food was donated to charity.
