Destination Marketing Association International has been renamed, officially becoming Destinations International, effective July 13.

The new name was unveiled this week during the association’s Annual Convention in Montreal, Canada.

Preliminary estimates indicate the successful Asian Attractions Expo (AAE) 2017 in Singapore attracted more than 7,500 participants, including 5,100 qualified buyers and 375 exhibiting companies.

The continued growth of the attractions industry within the Asia-Pacific region was evident at the Expo. More than 50 percent of buyers attended AAE for the first time.

Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt recently announced that approximately A$176 million (US$134 million) of funding had been earmarked to upgrade and expand the facilities of the Cairns Convention Centre (CCC).

The CCC, which opened in 1996, will use the funding to refurbish the existing 31,000 m2 venue and to build an additional 3,000 m2 of exhibition space and meeting rooms. Metal + Metallurgy China 2017, positioned as Asia’s largest exhibition serving the metal and metallurgical industries, was held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) from 13th to 15th June. The shows covered over 90,000 m2 of exhibition space and featured over 1,260 exhibitors.

 

The event was jointly organised by the China Iron and Steel Association, the China Foundry Association, the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES), the Metallurgical Council of CCPIT, the Industrial Furnace Institution of CMES and Hannover Milano Fairs Shanghai Ltd.

Organised by UBM Asia, a UBM plc company, the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair (June Fair) opened on 22nd June at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) and will run until 25th June.
