BITEC Expands, Targets More Events

August 23, 2016

The expansion project of Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC) is scheduled to be completed in November 2016. The venue’s management anticipates that US$170 million renovation and expansion will better position BITEC to attract major international concerts and theatre shows.

The expanded BITEC will feature three new event halls, 12 meeting rooms, three convention halls, retail and dining areas, an outdoor concert area and a mixed-use office building. More convenient transportation options such as the SkyTrain connection are included in the plans. After construction is completed, BITEC will feature 70,000 m2 of exhibition space.

Panittha Buri, Managing Director of BITEC commented, “BITEC would continue to be an industry leader for international trade exhibitions, consumer fairs and conventions. Our organisers will be able to deliver bigger events, not only in terms of space, but also in terms of profile and exposure. There will be opportunities to deliver multiple concurrent events – different events held at the same time, but separated by halls.”

As event professionals, our job is to host people and while we can’t prepare for everything, it’s essential to develop an emergency plan that can be adapted to any situation. In Boston, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority’s (MCCA) Public Safety Team at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC) and the Hynes Convention Center, have taken their experiences to develop a comprehensive crisis management training program, starting with crisis communications.
