MyCEB Secures 49 New Events in 2011
The Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) reported at total of 49 international and regional conventions were signed for Malaysia in 2011. MyCEB partnered with the Ministry of Tourism, Sarawak Convention Bureau, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and other strategic partners to secure various business events. Large scale events with over 4,000 delegates include the International Dragon Award (IDA), the IAS HIV Conference in Pathogenesis, treatment and Prevention and Women Deliver Conference, all taking place in 2013.
Additionally, the bureau also provided support for 198 business events in 2011, which includes 130 conventions, 62 corporate meetings/incentives and six exhibitions. According to MyCEB, these events attracted 150,935 delegates in total and helped to generate an estimated US$344 million in economic impact.
MyCEB’s CEO, Zulkefli Hj Sharif, said, “With an average of 730 delegates per event, these conventions are expected to attract over 35,750 delegates to Malaysia between 2012-2019 and generate in excess of RM382 million (US$123 million) in economic impact for the country.”
Until recently, the opportunity to have a celebrity attend an event, attach themselves to a name-brand or endorse a certain product or idea was untouchable. The thought of paying a person to promote a product was seen as something only Fortune 500 companies could afford. Social media has changed all that with brands and businesses utilizing celebrity influencers to connect directly with their demographics and increase sales and profits.
