Qingdao to Build Mega-venue Opening in 2018

Plans have been announced for a new mega-venue in Qingdao in Shandong province on China’s east coast. The Qingdao World Expo Centre will be located in the Qingdao West Coast New Area and according to the press release, the developers have targeted early 2018 as the soft opening date. 

The key investor in the overall project is the China Railway Group which plans to invest over US$8 billion.

Current plans include just over 200,000 sqm of gross indoor exhibition area which will be able to accommodate more than 6,300 standard exhibition booths. The Qingdao World Expo Centre will also feature a 6,000sqm ballroom, 30 small- to medium-sized meeting rooms and a press conference room that will be able to accommodate 900 people. The city also has plans to build more than 10,000 hotel rooms in the nearby vicinity to support events held at the Qingdao World Expo Centre.
