Visit Seattle Gets Creative with New Meetings Promo Video

January 9, 2018

Visit Seattle has unveiled a new event planner-focused video that takes a unique and artistic approach in showcasing what the Pacific Northwestern destination has to offer.

Using paper cut animation, “Seattle: A City Ready for You,” not only highlights typical events checklist items in Seattle such as walkability, convention centers, hotel supply and airlift, but also the myriad trailblazing collaborators and innovative companies clustered in the city’s bustling downtown.

Created in collaboration with local Seattle creative agency PB&, the video is designed to be a new tool Visit Seattle’s convention sales team can use as they share the many amenities the destination can provide for meetings and convention groups, including a planned addition to the Washington State Convention Center and new hotel inventory coming down the pipeline.

“We wanted to dig deeper and really show all of the exciting things happening right alongside our convention package,” said Rob Hampton, senior vice president of convention sales and services at Visit Seattle.

He continued, “In a ten-block radius, you encounter the legendary music label Sub Pop, dine at James Beard award-winning restaurants, visit the original Starbucks, shop in an entirely new and disruptive way at an Amazon Go store, or go old-school at Pike Place Market. This video brings to light the types of cultural collisions found in our downtown.”

Venues highlighted in the video include:

  • Seattle’s Waterfront
  • Pike Place MarketFront
  • Pike Place Market
  • Seattle Art Museum
  • Benaroya Hall
  • Tom Douglas Seattle Kitchen
  • Sub Pop Records
  • Amazon Go

  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac)

“Seattle has been blazing a new path in how they function as a DMO,” said Melissa Cummiskey, senior director of meetings and events for The Geological Society of America.

She added, “Much like their reimagined Customer Advisory Board, known as Event Innovation Forum, this video’s new perspective is refreshing and shows a city that’s growing and is ready for engaging, thought-leading events.”

According to Visit Seattle officials, unlike traditional event-hub destinations with industries that are scattered and remain within their respected silos, Seattle is a city without a specified business district, just businesses and people situated next to each other, forming new collaborations that are changing the way people experience things.

The proximity of all the different experiences, cultures and companies are what make Seattle unlike any other city, according to Kelly Saling, vice president of convention sales at Visit Seattle.

“Closeness breeds new collaborations and discoveries every day,” Saling said. “It creates greater depth and texture for the city in every block. So much so, that you’ll be surprised as to what you’re able to just stumble upon.”
