Greater Philadelphia Life Sciences Congress Launches New Video for Industry Planners

October 23, 2011

The Greater Philadelphia Life Sciences Congress, a division of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, launched a new video for industry planners and influencers – people who help bring meetings and conventions to Philadelphia.

This sales and marketing tool is meant to further position the Greater Philadelphia region as a premier life sciences meetings destination, according to PVB officials, and is narrated by Philadelphia singer/songwriter and cancer survivor Lauren Hart.

The video was unveiled during a reception at the Independence Visitor Center attended by life science professionals and other members of the hospitality community.

Produced by PCVB and FMP Media, with support from Cephalon and the Delaware Valley Regional Economic Development Fund, “Philadelphia: The Complete Package for Life Sciences Meetings” is a high definition video, which showcases Philadelphia’s assets in history, culture and life sciences.

More than 50 percent of all meetings and conventions held in Philadelphia are life sciences related.

“Philadelphia has always been at the forefront of the life sciences, especially when it comes to the industry-changing meetings and conventions,” said Bonnie Grant, executive director, GPLSC.

She added, “This video is another vehicle for us to be able to spread that message to a wider audience.”

According to a Pew report posted July 26, 71 percent of online users are now accessing video sites such as YouTube and Vimeo, compared with 33 percent four-and-a-half years ago.

With YouTube surpassing Yahoo as the second largest search engine on the internet, Life Sciences in Philadelphia “is sure to boost its brand with meeting planners and influencers, the primary target audiences,” according to PCVB officials.

The Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia officially went from being the 24th largest trade show venue in the United States to the 14th largest when it opened a 239,000 square foot expansion that gave it 679,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space earlier this year.

The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses was the first medical group to host an event in the expanded center.

The organization’s annual meeting ran March 18-24 and used 5,200 hotel rooms on peak and 27,000 hotel rooms total, generating an economic impact of $31 million, according to Jack Ferguson, president and CEO of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Life sciences conventions comprise 50 percent of all meetings and conventions held in Philadelphia.
