Apps, Automotive, Digital and Health All in the Spotlight at International CES

October 29, 2012

Not only will there be nearly 25 percent growth of digital health and fitness technology at the Consumer Electronic Association’s 2013 International CES, but the event also will feature a record number of automotive manufacturers, as well as being billed as the “largest app event in the world.”

More than 215 exhibitors will showcase the latest digital health and fitness technologies when International CES runs Jan 8-11 at the Las Vegas Convention Center and other venues around the city.

“Health and fitness technology is booming and will continue its dominance on the CES show floor with the future of fitness tech that combines data aggregation, social elements and convenience,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA.

He added, “Health, wellness and technology converge at the International CES where there are solutions for diagnosing, monitoring and treating illnesses with games that let people take responsibility for their own health and reinforce healthy behavior.”

More than 215 exhibitors will showcase devices beyond weight, body mass index (BMI), exercise and calorie tracking.

The next generation of health and fitness devices and apps offer access to complete medical history, comprehensive biometric data and remote access to medical professionals.

The companies displaying these technologies will be showcased in the FitnessTech and Digital Health Summit TechZones and conference tracks, plus Silvers Summit.

Seven of the top 10 automotive manufacturers also will showcase their latest technologies on the CES showfloor, including Audi, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, Kia and Subaru, which is exhibiting at CES for the first time in 2013.

“The record number of top automotive manufacturers exhibiting in 2013 verifies that CES is the leading event to experience the latest in automotive innovation and in-vehicle electronics,” Shapiro said.

He added, “With major exhibits in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s North Hall, as well as outdoor exhibits and demonstrations in Central Plaza, the 2013 CES showfloor will feature a compelling display of the technologies transforming the future of the auto industry.”

The International CES features the most innovative automotive product debuts. Automotive exhibits will cover more than 100,000 net square feet of exhibit space in 2013, up 5 percent, compared with the 2012 show.

More than 110 total automotive tech companies, including Delphi, Mitek, Pioneer and more will display their latest automotive technologies and services on the showfloor.

CEA industry forecasts predict sales of factory-installed vehicle technologies will increase by 11.3 percent in 2013 to nearly $8.7 billion.

International CES also is the place to go for anything and everything related to apps.

“Apps are everywhere; on our phones, computers and tablets. Apps are making their way into our everyday lives and, as a result, benefit our lifestyle,” Shapiro said.

He added, “The 2013 International CES is the only place in the world for developers to experience the largest gathering and broadest range of apps, from manufacturers, software providers and other developers. The entire apps program at CES can open doors through networking opportunities and offers the chance for app developers to display their skills.”

The app presence at CES includes competitions, educational sessions and events that showcase the several aspects of the app world.

This year, apps at CES features: CEA MoDev Hackathon, CES Developer University, Appy Hour, Wall of Apps and a Mobile Apps Showdown.
