March 28, 2014

The International Association of Exhibitions and Events selected Doug Ducate, CEM, CMP as this year's "Legend of the Industry" for the IAEE Krakoff Leadership Institute to be held Aug. 2014 and IAEE Krakoff Advanced Leadership Institute to be held Aug. 3-5 in Savannah, Ga.

Each year, IAEE selects a "Legend of the Industry" whose contributions, innovation and leadership have been truly unique and remarkable. An informal setting then allows each participant face-to-face interaction with this industry leader.

Ducate began his trade show industry career in 1968 at the Society of Petroleum Engineers, where the first the first Offshore Technology Conference was launched the following year and he spent 26 years there.

He served as president and CEO of the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR) from April 1998 to December 2013.

In addition, Ducate has served as president of the Trade Show Bureau, president of the International Association for Exhibition Management (now IAEE) and chairman of the Convention Liaison Council.

He also served on the Board of Directors of the Professional Convention Management Association and the Board of Trustees of the PCMA Foundation.

"I am honored to have been selected as this year's Legend of the Industry and look forward to meeting with this year's Institute participants," Ducate said.

He added. "This is an industry that is constantly growing and changing, and I look forward to sharing what I have learned over the years with enthusiastic up-and-comers who represent the future of the exhibitions and events industry."

This year's facilitator for the Krakoff Leadership Institute, Erick Burton, CSP, is founder of the Burton Leadership Center, a 28-acre facility near Kansas City, Mo.

It features a Leadership Course designed to develop organizational and personal leadership. His expertise in leadership acceleration is included in his interactive book on leadership and in a personalized leadership assessment called "The Leadership AcceleratorTM."
