The 32nd HKTDC Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair, held Sept. 4-8 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, attracted nearly 19,000 buyers, up 7 percent, compared with the previous year. Buyer growth came from a number of countries, including the Philippines (up 46 percent), the Chinese mainland (up 25 percent), Brazil (up 18 percent), Australia (up 16 percent) and Indonesia (up 13 percent). U.S.-based George Little Management’s first foray into Asia with the launch of its SURTEX brand Aug. 25- 27 in Shanghai scored a successful debut, according to Penny Sikalis, GLM vice president and manager of both SURTEX shows. Messe Duesseldorf’s ProWine China hasn’t even opened its doors for the first time yet, and it’s already sold out with 500 exhibitors from 26 countries. The show, scheduled Nov. 13-15 at the Shanghai New International Expo Center, also had to up its exhibit floor to meet demand from 430,500 square feet to 538,000 sq. ft. U.K.-based Tarsus Group, along with Indonesia-based exhibition organizer Dyandra Promosindo, is set to debut Zuchex Indonesia 2014, a housewares and gift show that will be held in Jakarta. Savings await buyers planning to visit the upcoming 52nd Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair (BGJF52) after the Thai government last month announced the lifting of the 20 percent tax on imported gems and jewelry products to be sold at the exhibition. Foreign exhibitors are now allowed to bring in and sell gems and jewelry from their countries duty-free, while local exhibitors can reduce selling prices as they cut down on imported parts and products’ costs.
