HKTDC's Education & Career Expo Draws 730 Exhibitors

More than 730 education institutions, professional associations, government departments, public organizations and private companies from 20 countries and regions took part in the 23rd HKTDC Education & Careers Expo, which was held in early February at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

The four-day expo featured two main zones, Education and Careers and, new this year, four Career Theme Days: Banking & Finance Day, Supply Chain & Logistics Day, Marketing & Management Day and Civil Service Day.

In all, more than 100 events, ranging from seminars, workshops and trial tutorial classes to celebrity sessions, took place.

Attendees had the unique opportunity to meet face to face with several companies that were looking for employees, including Calvin Klein, D-mop, i.t and JFT, to name a few.

 Professional bodies that took part included the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute, the Hong Kong Logistics Association, the Hong Kong Association of Freight Forwarding and Logistics Ltd and the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport in Hong Kong.

These, along with a variety of government departments, helped students and job-seekers gain a better understanding of industry opportunities and career options.

Along with job possibilities, attendees were given the opportunity to hone their interviewing skills through a variety of programs, as well as other sessions.

·         The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups led a workshop discussing strategies for Administrative Officer and Executive Officer interviews and the Hong Kong civil service’s Common Recruitment Examination.

·         Simon Chan, Assistant Secretary (Further Education), at the Hong Kong Education Bureau, hosted a seminar, the “Multiple Pathways under the New Academic Structure.”

·         Dr Esther Ho, Chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters, and Elvis Ng, Manager and Registered Social Worker at the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society, looked at options for further studies following the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) Examination. 

In addition, representatives of the Australian Consulate-General, Austrian Trade Commission, Campus France, German Academic Exchange Service Information Centre Hong Kong & Macau, The Office of the European Union to Hong Kong and Macau and the US Commercial Service – Hong Kong & Macau hosted seminars on school admission procedures, preparation for studying overseas, campus life and study culture in their respective regions.

Celebrities even took part, with musician and Hong Kong Film Awards' “Best New Performer” in 2011 Hanjin Tan discussing his career in a special session.

RFID locks were installed on all meeting room doors, and over 200 motion detection cameras have been placed throughout the space. Featuring white-washed walls and ceilings adorned with bold floral patterns in cerulean and coral tones, the space is complemented by warm walnut accent walls. In addition to the redesign of all pre-function spaces, meeting rooms and ballrooms, Mandalay Bay's 1 million square feet of exhibit space has undergone a rejuvenation, including new paint, covered pillars and relocated strobe lights.
