Emerald Expositions Buys Events in Food and Healthcare/Senior Living Design Industries

March 3, 2015

Emerald Expositions bought several brands in the healthcare and senior living design market, including the Healthcare Design Conference and Expo and other events, education, print and online assets from the Vendome Group, as well as the International Pizza Expo and Pizza Today magazine from Macfadden Communications Group.

Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

“At Emerald, we have tremendous tradeshow assets in our Design Group, including HD Expo, GlobalShop, ICFF and the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show,” said Joe Randall, executive vice president of Design, Healthcare, Antiques & Military for Emerald.

He added, “We also have leading complementary magazines that support these shows, such as Hospitality Design, Contract, Kitchen and Bath Business, and design:retail, as well as associated online and event activities. Healthcare Design, EFA, and CSC are natural additions to Emerald’s Design portfolio.”

The Healthcare Design Conference and Expo is a trade show and conference primarily focused on evidence-based design for healthcare facilities.

The business has close relationships with The Center for Health Design® and the American Institute of Architects, in addition to several other association partners, according to show management.

Environments For Aging (EFA) is a complementary niche within the broader healthcare vertical, focused on creating functional and attractive living environments that meet the needs of the aging population.

The brand includes a tradeshow/conference, magazine, and education and sponsored events.

Construction SuperConference (CSC) is an event for lawyers providing advice in commercial construction markets.

The three brands are based in Cleveland and led by Ron Lowy, who will report to Randall.

The next Healthcare Design Conference and Expo is on tap Nov. 14-17 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Md.

Investment Bank, Berkery Noyes & Co, LLC, represented Vendome in the transaction.

The International Pizza Expo serves the $40 billion dollar pizza industry and is on the TSNN Top 250 list of trade shows.

The pizza team is based in Louisville, Ky., and is led by Peter Lachapelle, who also will report to Randall.

“This is Emerald’s first tradeshow acquisition in the foodservice industry, and we are exceptionally pleased that the International Pizza Expo is such a strong, vibrant and growing show,” Randall said.

He added. “We look forward to supporting the team in the continued entrepreneurial building of the business.”

The next International Pizza Expo is scheduled March 23-26 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
