Hanley Wood Acquires Greenbuild Conference & Expo

May 22, 2013

As part of a strategic partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council, Hanley Wood has acquired the Greenbuild Conference & Expo.

“The U.S. Green Building Council has established Greenbuild as the must-attend event in the sustainable construction industry, making this acquisition a natural fit for Hanley Wood,” said Peter Goldstone, CEO of Hanley Wood.

He added, “Greenbuild is a powerful community driven by a passion for creating a socially responsible and healthy environment that improves our quality of life. We are excited to partner with USGBC and advance the community’s mission by growing this important and globally significant event.”

USGBC will continue to produce the event’s programming, including plenaries, education, the pre-conference sector summits and the USGBC Leadership Awards.

Hanley Wood will leverage its expertise in exhibition and conference management to grow the show not only in the U.S., but also expand it globally.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity for USGBC and the green building movement,” said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and founding chair of USGBC.

He added, “Through Hanley Wood’s commitment to Greenbuild, USGBC can now accelerate investment in our core mission. One of the reasons we chose to partner with Hanley Wood is because of their commitment to maintain and build upon those essential qualities of Greenbuild that make it such a unique experience.”

The Greenbuild Conference & Expo is No. 135 on the 2012 TSNN Top 250, with more than 900 exhibitors and nearly 25,000 attendees on a 171,140 net square foot showfloor.

The USGBC also is well-known for furthering its sustainable mission through its LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards program, as well as several other efforts to advance cost-efficient and energy-saving green buildings.

“This partnership creates an opportunity for us and our members to expand the green building marketplace, broaden our influence on green building policy, enhance the tools that improve building performance, increase our focus on human health and social equity and put an emphasis on new and existing homes,” Fedrizzi said.

Hanley Wood produces a portfolio of shows in the building sector, including DeckExpo, International Roofing Expo, JLCLIVE and Remodeling Show.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

This year’s show is on tap Nov. 20-22 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.
