HKCEC Posts a Record Attendance of 8.2 Million in FY2017-18

In its previous financial year (which ran from July 2017 to June 2018), the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) announced that it hosted a total of 1,061 events, including 118 exhibitions, 166 conferences and hundreds of corporate meetings, banquets and entertainment events.

The venue welcomed over 8.2 million visitors during the year, including exhibitors, trade buyers, conference and meeting delegates, event visitors, banquet guests and restaurant customers.

According to HKCEC, exhibitions and conferences held at the venue covered a wide range of topics including start-ups, franchising, diving and resorts, high tech, finance, medical science, cloud technology, amusement and theme park, etc. Of the 118 exhibitions, seven were new exhibitions, and the remaining were recurrent exhibitions.

Among the 166 conferences, 69 international and local conferences were new to the venue.

According to the HKCEC’s management, the venue hosted 47,521 events and welcomed more than 112 million attendees since its opening in 1988 through to 30th June 2018.

Monica Lee-Müller, Managing Director of Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Limited (HML), the management company of HKCEC, commented, “We are proud of the results, but we would not rest on our laurels.  We continue to look for opportunities to improve and share our success with our business partners, staff members and community at large.  The commitment is reflected in the 30th anniversary slogan: Breakthrough Advance Together.  A series of infrastructure and technological upgrade are already in progress.”

Since the program’s launch in 2016, more than 3.7 million meals toward a 2025 goal of 5 million meals have been donated into the community. Donations include: Unserved perishable prepared foods from events Perishable unprepared food from MGM Resorts’ kitchens Nonperishable food items from minibars and warehouses The collaboration with Southern Nevada’s primary food bank, Three Square, has developed the infrastructure needed to safely collect, transport, and store food from MGM Resorts properties in Las Vegas, reducing food waste while serving the community.
