Description
In 1986, the Founding members of the IAIME, formerly known as American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians (AADEP), dreamed of creating a medical organization that would teach the unique skills and techniques required to perform special medical evaluations and assessments on certain types of patients. Today, IAIME is the premier organization that produces educational courses and products on such issues as the proper techniques to perform impairment ratings based on the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, treatment of industrial related conditions, prevention of the disastrous disability cascade, surgical treatment of back pain, the science of bone and soft tissue healing, and the proper methods to perform return to work evaluations that place the injured person in a physical demand Category of work, based on the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT). IAIME has developed educational materials and courses for medical professionals, the insurance industry, the legal field, and governmental organizations. The Fellows of IAIME come from a wide variety of medical specialties . Many State Workers' Compensation Systems use IAIME as the teaching organization for their healthcare providers. IAIME is the only medical specialty organization that is dedicated entirely to teaching healthcare professionals with a national group of outstanding faculty, experienced in teaching in all areas of the medical and legal aspects surrounding the care of the injured worker. Another outstanding aspect of IAIME is that the Board of Directors of IAIME created in 2003 new membership categories. This allows professionals in many different medical and professional fields to become a part of IAIME. The new categories of membership were created in response to a growing need for professionals such as chiropractors, nurse case managers, adjusters, and vocationalcounselors to take advantage of the wide range of IAIME educational programs. Over the years, professionals from all 50 states, Canada, Australia, and Europe have attended IAIME meetings and become IAIME members and Fellows. IAIME provides education to an average of 2,000 professionals per year.
