Tourism Australia’s Business Events Bid Fund Programme (BFP) has reportedly doubled the value of business events secured in Australia in the past three months reaching A$187 million (US$134 million).

Since the launch of the BFP in July 2018, a total of 14 new events have been confirmed for Australia. Since the launch of BFP, the number of applications received from the Australian business events industry was almost 80.

According to media reports, the total expenditure by international business events visitors for the year ended September 2018 was A$4.9 billion (US$3.5 billion), an increase of 16% over the previous year.

Tourism Australia Managing Director, John O’Sullivan, commented, “The BFP provides critical support for industry at the all-important bidding stage, when the BFP can provide a real competitive edge for Australia by helping offset event costs here.”
