Global Sources ended 2011 with positive revenue results, but the beginning of 2012 wasn’t as upbeat, with first-quarter exhibition revenue dropping to $2.2 million, compared with $4.4 million the first quarter in 2011. Global Sources’ management stated the decrease in Q1 exhibition revenues resulted from the rescheduling of one trade show from January 2012 to December 2011. Print revenue also declined to $4.3 million in the first quarter of 2012, compared with $4.7 million in the same quarter last year. The Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre held its first-ever drawing competition - “A Landmark for Success Drawing Competition 2012” – in which 16 young primary and secondary school students received prizes at an Award Presentation Ceremony for their submissions. The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre recently scored four awards in the national Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) Awards for a second consecutive year. The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions’ Asian Attractions Expo 2013 will head back to Singapore June 4-7 at the Marina Bay Sands. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council’s Hong Kong Houseware Fair attracted more than 2,000 exhibitors and 40,000 visitors, an 8.5-percent increase compared with last year, when it recently was held at the Hong Convention & Exhibition Centre. Exhibitors were from 32 countries and regions, including first-time participation from Sri Lanka. Debuting at the center’s largest show – Reed Gift Fair in February - the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre gave exhibitors the opportunity to tap into a new sustainable practice at the center. In a move designed to reduce power consumption and exhibitor costs, the center installed dedicated electricity outlets for cleaning in its main exhibition halls, enabling exhibition organisers to switch off all other power overnight. When the Hong Kong Trade Development Council’s Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring) opened its doors this week at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre it already was off to a good start with a record-breaking 950 exhibitors. The show, scheduled April 6-9, is in its fourth year and attracted exhibitors from not only the Chinese mainland, but also France, Germany, Hong Kong, Korea, the Netherlands, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the United States.
