Almost one-third of the company’s total sales were generated from the Messe Duesseldorf’s ever-growing international portfolio.

“Our growing international presence and the high number of events at the Duesseldorf site in 2011 have resulted in a renewed increase in sales and profits,” said Werner M. Dornscheidt, president and CEO of Messe Duesseldorf.

Besides Germany, Messe Duesseldorf has shows in 15 countries, including the United States, Vietnam, Brazil, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, to name a few.

“The Messe Duesseldorf Group and Messe Duesseldorf GmbH are well positioned strategically,” Dornscheidt said.

He added, “Our growth is sustainable. Depending on exhibition cycles and overall economic developments, we expect national and international growth of 4 to 5 percent annually.”

At Messe Duesseldorf’s home-based events - 21 of which are owned and the other 17 are guest events - international exhibitors last year grew to 58 percent, compared with 57 percent in 2010, and 32 percent were international visitors, compared with 30 percent in 2010.

The coming year also looks strong for Messe Duesseldorf’s home events, with 25 owned and 15 guest exhibitions, including capital goods trade fairs drupa, MEDICA, wire/Tube, glasstec and Valve World Expo.

In addition, more than 80 own events and participations will be held abroad and the Messe Duesseldorf Group is expecting an increase in the international share of group sales, according to company officials.

Besides China, Russia and India, Indonesia is of particular focus of the Messe Duesseldorf Group’s international strategy, with the new events INDOPLAS, INDOPACK and INDOPRINT.

Looking further into the future, Messe Duesseldorf also plans to upgrade its fairgrounds in Germany and will invest more than $661 million by 2020, according to company officials.
