The massive biannual International Manufacturing Technology Show is on track for another successful event with the doors opening today at Chicago’s McCormick Place and running through Sept. 15

The show’s pre-registration numbers have surpassed 2010’s total registration numbers of 82,411. As of Sept. 10, the show has 86,102 total registrants.

"This is another piece of evidence that manufacturing continues to lead the way during an uncertain economic recovery," said IMTS Vice President - Exhibitions and Communications Peter Eelman.

He added, "IMTS exhibitors are excited to show their innovative products to an expanding audience and are ready to supply manufacturing with the tools they need to fuel the growing manufacturing sector."

IMTS, which is owned and produced by AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology, kicks off with the AMT Manufacturing Stage presented by FANUC with Acting U.S. Commerce Secretary Rebecca Blank making a special appearance, along with Ill. Governor Pat Quinn, AMT President Douglas Woods and Local Motors President Jay Rogers.

IMTS also will welcome Michael F. Molnar, director of the Advanced Manufacturing National Program and chief manufacturing office of the -National Institute of Standards and Technology who will present on Wednesday.

IMTS 2010 was ranked No. 2 on the TSNN Top 250 Trade Show List and spanned 1,137,375 net square feet, as well as attracted 1,728 exhibitors and 82,411 attendees to McCormick Place.

Also joining in on IMTS’ success is a new addition to this year’s show, Germany-based Deutsche Messe AG’sIndustrial Automation North America event, which is run by the company’s Hannover Fairs USA subsidiary.

“The inaugural Industrial Automation North America show sold out of exhibitor space this year with 30 percent more exhibitor space than our original commitment,” said Larry Turner, CEO of Hannover Fairs.

He added, “This illustrates the fact that manufacturing is strong and that there is a need for innovative products to fuel continued growth."
