BIO International Convention Will Feature Academia in Pavilion and Forum alt

The 2014 BIO International Convention will highlight the role of academia in the advancement of the biotechnology field through the BIO Alliance Pavilion and the Translational Research Forum. Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), the global event for biotechnology, will take place June 23-26 at the San Diego Convention Center.

“As the largest partnering event in the industry, the BIO International Convention hosts more than 3,000 biotechnology companies who are looking for new business partners,” said Scott Whitaker, president of the BIO International Convention.

He added, “In 2013, 70 percent of academic and research institutions at BIO met with potential private or public sector partners. These meetings allowed for relationships to be established with pharmaceutical and biotech companies and the exploration of potential licensing opportunities.”

The BIO Academic Zone, featured in the BIO Alliance Pavilion, is dedicated to academic and research institutions that are looking to commercialize new and innovative technology.

Sponsored by AstraZeneca and MedImmune, the Zone will allow companies to energize drug development and pipeline opportunities and connect with innovative academic researchers and technology transfer offices.

Academia and industry will connect through BIO's One-on-One Partnering™ System. Nearly 500 scheduled one-on-one meetings took place within the BIO Alliance Pavilion in 2013 with more expected in 2014.

The Translational Research Forum will explore how academia and the private and public sectors can best pursue the partnerships necessary to bring innovative products from the research lab to the market.

The forum will bring together universities, companies and federal, state and foreign governments to discuss new translational funding, licensing models and the latest developments in technology transfer.

Sponsored by Johnson & Johnson Innovation and the University of Virginia Innovation, the forum will feature four educational sessions and culminate with a networking reception.
