The four-day Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) and the concurrent electronicAsia attracted more than 97,000 buyers from 140 countries and regions, with the electronics portion drawing a 5-percent increase, compared with last year’s show. The Hong Kong Trade Development Councils’ combined exhibitions at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre also welcomed 3,900 exhibitors from 28 countries and regions. Marina Bay Sands has had its busiest MICE month ever, with 13 tradeshows and several key conferences scheduled for the Singapore-based venue in October. Mack Brooks Exhibitions reported a 50-percent growth in number of exhibitors and booth space at the latest edition of inter airport China which took place at the China International Exhibition Centre this Sept. 26-28. The four-day trade show attracted 106 exhibitors from 18 countries where 65 percent of booth space was made up of local Chinese exhibitors. The northern Malaysian state of Penang plans to set up a convention bureau in the near future to attract more MICE business to the region. It is not yet known whether the bureau will be government assisted or privately run at this stage. There will also be a number of new MICE facilities opening in Penang in the coming years. London-based B2B media group, UBM plc, released its interim results for the nine months ended Sept. 30 The company posted revenues of £734.6 million in the first nine months in 2012, a year-on-year increase of 4.0 percent compared with last year’s £706.2 million. Adjusted operating profit in the period was £141.7 million, compared with £127.5 million in the first nine months in 2011 – an 11-percent growth. In a bid to attract more events from the U.S., the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has officially launched its ‘Sustainable Challenge’ campaign at the international exhibition for MICE travel, IMEX Americas, in Las Vegas. In 2011, TCEB reported the arrival 49,000 MICE travellers from the Americas (including the U.S., Canada, Central and South America). Together, they generated revenues of around US$98 million, up 16 percent from 2010. Nearly 72,000 attendees checked out not only more exhibits, but also a bigger showfloor at the recent World Dairy Expo at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis. The number of attendees saw an uptick of 5.6 percent, compared with last year’s show. In addition, there was a 6.5-percent increase of exhibitors to 863 and a showfloor that grew 8.8 percent to 560,600 net square feet, compared with 2011, according to John Rozum, sales manager for World Dairy Expo. More than 700 participants from around the world are expected to attend the Mid-Pacific Conference on Birth and Primal Health Research from Oct. 26-28 at the Hawai‘i Convention Center. Two of Messe Duesseldorf’s recent medical-related shows in Singapore grew in attendance. The staging of OS+H Asia, 8th Occupational Safety & Health Exhibition for Asia in Singapore concluded with a strong increase in exhibitor and visitor participation: 163 exhibiting companies from 22 countries showcased their products to 5,918 trade visitors - with 20 percent coming from overseas, primarily from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
