The ATC Show 2012, made up of All in CARAVANING 2012 and All in TUNING 2012 in Beijing, had an impressive debut for the growing RVand camping industry in China. The Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre has unveiled a series of upgrades following its US$147 million makeover. Suntec will reopen its doors May 1 and highlight the upgrades’ ability to provide clients with greater control of their events and budget. The refurbished Suntec will contain a large number of configurable meeting spaces allowing its clients to rent according to their event’s specific requirements. Messe München International (MMI), organiser of bauma China, anticipates a record-size show this year with more than 2,600 exhibitors from 39 countries expected to attend – close to a 40 percent increase over its previous edition. The 10th edition of beverage and liquid food industry trade show, China Brew & China Beverage (CBB), reported a 40% exhibition space growth this year – up from 50,000 square metersin the 2010 edition to 70,000 sq. m. Organised by Beijing Zhongqing Heli International Exhibition, around 700 exhibitors from 21 countries attended this year, compared with 583 in the previous edition. According to recent media reports, plans to build the US$85 million Phuket International Convention and Exhibition Centre have now been scrapped by the Thai government. The resort destination in southern Thailand was to be the first in the region to receive a large-scale MICE venue. An original budget of US$85 million (THB2.6 billion) was approved by the government of former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, which also included plans for a US$186 million upgrade to the Phuket International Airport. Despite opening its doors at Chicago’s McCormick Place the day before Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast, PMMI’s biennial PACK EXPO International still pulled in a 3-percent increase in attendees to 45,388, compared with the 2010 event. Burning rubber, work-of-art rides and a Hackathon were just part of the action at the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) Show that took place Oct. 30-Nov. 2 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Update: New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg canceled the New York City Marathon on the second day of the 2012 ING New York City Marathon and Fitness Expo. This time of year, more than 40,000 runners usually converge on the streets of New York City to run the historic marathon and, even after Hurricane Sandy wreaked destruction across the Northeast, this year’s marathon, along with the 2012 ING New York City Marathon and Fitness Expo, still is on tap.
