Malaysia CVB Makes Several New Marketing/Sales Initiatives; Scores Record Attendance at Auditors Show

October 24, 2011

Not only did the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) recently launch the first phase of its Web site and a new QR Code at IMEX America, but also it scored record numbers at the Institute of Internal Auditors International Conference 2011 in July in Kuala Lumpur.

The Web site and QR code initiatives were launched as an integral part of the Bureau's strategic efforts to compete on the international business events arena more effectively, according to MyCEB officials.

“The introduction of our user-friendly Web site and QR Code are crucial for us to drive our communications and ever evolving business development program,” said Zulkefli Hj Sharif, Chief Executive Officer of MyCEB,

He added, “This is in line with our aspiration to be recognized as Asia’s model bureau by stepping up to offer a seamless experience for meeting planners and providing the leading edge in terms of professionalism, best practices and business impact.”

Also presented to the media for the first time was the MyCEB QR code, which directs user to the website for instant access when scanned with a smart-phone QR reader.

Ms Ho explained, “The MyCEB QR code was designed to be easily recognised with a link to Malaysia’s global icon, the PETRONAS Twin Towers. Juxtaposing red on blue and black, it stands out among traditional QR Codes, which gives it a unique identity.”

The MyCEB Web site and QR code were developed in collaboration with Tribal DDB (Malaysia), an established full service digital creative agency under the Omnicom Group globally.

Next steps, according to MyCEB, will see the Web site’s integration with a Customer Relationship Programme. Besides enhancing service delivery to meet individual needs of meeting and event planners, a platform for information exchange and interactive product search, plus the Request for Proposals tool also will be created, according to MyCEB officials.

More good news for MyCEB was the recent 70th IIA International Conference 2011 hosted by theInstitute of Internal Auditors Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, which scored 2,200 attendees.

The Florida-based IIA 2011 conference was the first in Asia and registered a record-breaking attendance for a conference held outside the USA.

“Our partnership with the IIA Malaysia has made this event possible and a success. Their resources on the ground provided a high level of professionalism,” said Augusto Baeta, director of International Conferences for the IIA. “From a meeting planner’s perspective, the local vendors were of high quality.”

He added, “Hosting the event at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre was also a key to our success. Not only it is a world-class facility, the staff support was outstanding. Furthermore, the support from the Malaysian government also played a large role in the success by helping to promote the event and to bring stature to the programme by attending and participating as key speakers.”
