The United States Green Building Council’s Greenbuild International Conference & Expo will be held for the first time outside of the U.S. in Toronto. The show, on tap Oct. 4-7 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, includes programming, workshops and an exhibition floor that provides attendees an “unrivaled opportunity to learn about the latest technological innovations, explore new products and network with other professionals,” according to MTCC officials. Despite the fact Libyan revolutionary forces still are in the grips of trying to completely take back the country and remove its long-time leader, Moammar Gadhafi, U.K.-based Montgomery Worldwide has monitored developments and decided to reenter the trade show market with two events through its Montgomery Libya Ltd. Exhibition and conference events held at AsiaWorld-Expo contributed approximately HK$13.4 billion to the local economy in 2010, according to the Economic Contribution Assessment Report conducted by professional services firm KPMG Transaction Advisory Services Limited. TIPREX 2011, Thai International Plastics and Rubber Exhibition drew a record crowd of 10,500 attendees Aug. 31-Sept. 3 to the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre. The number of attendees, 15 percent of which were from overseas, was a 30-percent increase, compared with the last time the event was held in 2009. Countries such as India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam were strongly represented by the attendees. The Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) is looking to build on the growth recorded from MICE last year and is aiming to grow Malaysia’s business travel arrivals from the current 5% of total arrivals to 8 percent by 2020. MyCEB reportedly supported 28 convention bids worth US$146 million in 2010. Through MyCEB’s recent campaign, a further 16 events have already been confirmed for this year, with a further 33 in the pipeline. This week, the All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE), an annual international event for the leather industry, concluded at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. The event is jointly organised by the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) and APLF, a joint venture between UBM Asia and SIC Group. ACLE is concurrently held with the China International Footwear Fair (CIFF) and Moda Shanghai. Pico Thailand, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Pico Far East Holdings, announced its financial results for the quarter ended July 31. In the quarter, Pico Thailand’s revenues were US$7.9 million – that is a 28 percent increase, compared with the same period in 2010. The company’s net profit in the period was US$424,000 – up 100 percent, compared with the same quarter last year. Pico Thailand also announced its results for the nine months ended July 31.
