As World Routes draws to a close on the African continent, the Province of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa, officially has handed the event over to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport in Chengdu, China for 2016. Asia’s fair for the home textiles industry recently was held, with new records set for exhibitor, visitor and exhibition space figures. More than 43,000 trade buyers (2014: 43,189) attended Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles – Autumn Edition 2015, which was held for the first time at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) across 170,520 square meters (2014: 150,400). Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd will launch a new initiative this year to facilitate nonwovens fabric suppliers’ expansion into China, where imports of such products jumped 128 percent from 2000 to 2013. The German exhibition company’s Asia Pacific branch will launch the China International Nonwovens Expo & Forum (CINE – supported by Techtextil) from Oct. 14-16, adding one more event to its comprehensive textile portfolio, and complementing the biennial Cinte Techtextil China trade fair. Following Monday’s shocking terrorist bombing in Bangkok, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) set up a special team to assist MICE organisers, visitors and exhibitors. The initiative includes a temporary TCEB Information Centre at the Bangkok airport. TCEB reports that no major events have been cancelled and it expects more than 76,000 MICE delegates at events to be held in August, September and October.
