New Monthly Podcast for Events Industry Launching July 15

July 10, 2019

Event professionals are always on the go, and sometimes it can be challenging to keep up with industry news. While we are obviously in favor of news articles, it’s nice to have options. And for those times you’re on a plane, in a car, taking a walk or just needing a break from the computer screen, listening to a podcast can be a great way to learn.

Paris-based event app and matchmaking platform provider Swapcard is betting that there is a large audience of event professionals out there who would agree.

As the boundaries between business and consumer marketing continue to blur, podcasts are on the rise. As of June 2019, there are more than 750,000 active podcasts and 30 million podcast episodes available. The majority listen to comedy, education and news.

Swapcard’s new monthly podcast for event professionals, “Inside Events,” is set to launch this month with the inaugural episode slated for July 15. The series will be hosted by marketing and event industry professional Megan Powers, principal at Powers of Marketing. Powers also hosts the popular “Making a Marketer” podcast.

“Having been a podcaster for the last few years, I’ve always enjoyed the shows that were focused on events, so to have the opportunity to host one totally dedicated to the space is exciting,” says Powers, who is also the vice president of communications for MPI’s San Diego chapter. “I’m hoping it will become a go-to show for my peers and colleagues in meetings and events.

Jack Geddes, Swapcard’s acquisition manager, says the goal of the podcast is to provide a valuable resource for the event industry that delivers insights and education for event and meeting organizers on topics such as event tech, marketing, measuring ROI and digital strategy.

“A podcast offers a way for [event pros] to keep up with industry news and acquire new knowledge without having to set aside time to read content,” says Geddes. “They can listen to it while they tend to other aspects of their daily life.”

The first confirmed guests for the show will be Julius Solaris from Event Manager Blog, Nick Borelli of Borelli Strategies and Adam Parry from Event Industry News.

“There aren’t many podcasts in the meetings and events space, and [those that] do exist don’t really dig into the issues that are having an impact on us all,” says Powers. “It’s important for this particular podcast that we have thought leaders who will help us tackle issues and topics inside our industry.”

Podcast episodes will be available on Swapcard’s Youtube channel in full (audio and, when available, video). Audio only will also be available on iTunes, Spotify and Swapcard’s podcast feed
